Sahara's Special:)
I am loving this read aloud so far. I wish I could continue to read and not have to wait til each class time. However, it makes it exciting. I think that this story easily allows other children to relate. They can relate to things going on at home, in school, with friends etc. I was a little upset with the story when Sahara was pushed in to "Special Education." I felt that the situation could have been dealt with in a more pleasant way. I think that Sahara is a very special person and the more we read the more we will find out. I look forward to reading more of this story.

Wow! Six Language Arts!!
Before opening the textbook or discussing in class the six Language Arts I never considered the topic. However, after the introduction of listening, talking, reading, writing, viewing, and visually representing I was not shocked at all that they are all considered Language Arts. It all makes complete sense.
Personally, I believe that viewing and visually representing should be apart of this list. With that being said I do not think that they should take over the classroom. I think it is important for students to be taught how to listen effectively, talk, read, and write. However, in order to learn those elements students must view teachers, leaders, parents, and peers doing those things. I believe Williams states it perfectly when he states "students need to learn how to comprehend them and to integrate visual knowledge with our literacy knowledge." I feel that visually representing is a modern way for children to express there literacy creativity through technology.
Thinking back to my earlier years in school, I remember using all six of the Language arts. In class, we would listen to the teacher read a story or a book on tape. The class would read aloud or individually. In the classroom we were always using writing in every activity. Watching Videos was very popular amongst the students. I also was apart of the News team in high school which gave the students a chance to visually represent.
I feel that it is important to include all six of the Language Arts. Although, it is just like anything else and variety is key!
Variety and Creative are essential in a classroom.
